Repertoire Suggestions
The Ohio University School of Music has the following general audition requirements. Additionally, the following information is simply recommended and required. If you have questions contact me. In general, there are no limitations with regard to what you want perform, so judgement should be based on what sounds your best!
Scales
Undergraduates should prepare all major scales two octaves with tonic arpeggios. Minor scales are not required, but suggested if comfortable. Graduate applicants should prepare all major and minor scales and arpeggios.
Etudes
Two contrasting etudes illustrating lyrical and technical styles should be a minimum.
Below are some suggested etudes books to find appropriate etudes:
Bordogni - Vocalises
Blazhevich – Sequences
Kopprasch – Sixty Selected Studies for Trombone Vol. I. II.
Mueller – Technical Studies Vol. II
Snedecor – Lyrical Etudes
Tyrell – 40 progressive Studies
Voxman - Selected studies
Solo
Usually, solos selected from your state contest list (Class A) are appropriate. Also, required repertoire lists for solo competitions (high school, college, Young Artist, or Artist level) are appropriate as well. In the end, you simply want to select a solo that is highly familiar and demonstrates your finest qualities. The difficulty level of the solo should not be the primary focus for your selection.
Excerpts
Excerpt preparation is highly suggested for graduate school applicants. Selections can be based on current auditions or competition lists.
Audition Dates
For dates and more information go to http://www.ohio.edu/finearts/music/admission/audition-info.cfm
